12. Follow Me

Follow Me:
The Follow Me application allows an extension to ring multiple extensions or outside telephone numbers. This allows users to be reached at numerous devices. Calls can ring the devices with different strategies, and or require confirmation for accepting the call.

  1. Login to FreePBX as described here.
  2. Click the Setup tab at the top of the page.
  3. On the left side of the page click the Follow Me link under Inbound Call Control.
  4. Click the add button for the desired extension on the right side of the page.
  5. Configure the Announcement using the following guidelines below.
    Edit Follow Me
    • Initial Ring Time - Choose the number of seconds to ring the primary extension before proceeding with the Follow Me list.
    • Ring Strategy - Choose one of the following ring strategies for this group.
Ringall: Ring all the available extensions in this group until the call is answered.
Hunt: Take turns ringing each available extension
MemoryHunt: Ring the first extension in the list, then the first and second, then the first second and third extensions in the list, and so on.
Ringall-Prim: Ring all the available extensions in this group until the call is answered. Unless the first extension in the list is busy or on Do Not Disturb, then do not ring the other listed extensions.
Hunt-Prim: Take turns ringing each available extension, unless the first extension listed is busy or on Do Not Disturb, then do not ring the other listed extensions.
MemoryHunt-Prim: Ring the first extension in the list, then the first and second, then the first second and third extensions in the list, and so on. Unless the first extension in the list is busy or on Do Not Disturb, then do not ring the other listed extensions.
    • Alert Info - This will change the ring tone on the phone when calls ring this group. Check your phone manual for available options.
    • Confirm Calls - Check this box if the group contains external phone numbers that need confirmation. When a member answers the call they will be prompted to accept the call. This avoids the voicemail box of an external phone number from falsely answering the call.
    • Remote Announce - Select a System Recording for the message to be played to the person receiving the call if Confirm Calls is enabled. Leave set at default for the default message.
    • Too Late Announce - Select a System Recording for the message to be played to the person receiving the call when the call has already been accepted by another member, if Confirm Calls is enabled. Leave set at default for the default message.
    • Extension List - List the extensions to include in this ring group, one per line. Both internal extensions and external phone numbers can be included in the list. For external phone numbers suffix the number with a "#" symbol, remember to add any required routing digits as well.
    • CID Name Prefix - Enter a short prefix for the Caller ID name of the calls from this group. This enables members to identify which group the call is from by viewing the caller ID name on their display. For example, for the accounting ring group enter "Acct:". If a call came into this group from John Doe, the caller ID on the members phone would read "Acct:John Doe".
    • Ring Time - Enter the maximum number of seconds to ring the members of this group before considering the call a no answer. The maximum allowed ring time is 60 seconds.
    • Announcement - Select a System Recording to play to the caller before ringing this group.
    • Play Music On Hold - Select a Music On Hold category to play instead of the ring tone. While the caller is waiting they will hear the selected Music On Hold category.
      Destination
    • Destination If No Answer - Choose the destination for calls which have exceeded the maximum ring time for this group. For Follow Me this is usually the voicemail box for the extension.
  6. Click the Submit button when done.
  7. To apply the changes click the red "Apply Changes" Bar in the upper right corner of the page. You may add more Follow Me settings before clicking "Apply Changes", just be sure to click the "Apply Changes" bar before exiting.

Simply roll your mouse over the setting name, if there is a hint for the setting you will see a pop-up box with information regarding the setting. Mozilla Firefox is the suggested web browser for using Freepbx Internet Explorer is not currently supported due to it's lack of compliance with Internet standards. FreePBX also includes a basic Call Detail Reporting package, this application will show basic incoming and outgoing call information. The application will also allow for the call records to be searched and sorted, data may be exported as a CSV or PDF file. This package will not report call queue information or statistics.
